Chinese President Xi Jinping praised what he described as a “renewed formula” for managing relations with the United States, based on combining cooperation and competition within clear limits, following his bilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to a statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xi confirmed that both sides reached an understanding on the importance of building a “constructive and strategically stable” relationship, providing a guiding framework for bilateral ties in the coming years and beyond.
The statement noted that the Chinese president described the relationship between the two countries as fundamentally rooted in cooperation, while acknowledging the existence of “controlled” competition aimed at preserving stability and preventing disagreements from spiraling out of control, thereby ensuring a degree of predictability in relations between the two global powers.
Xi also called for expanding economic and trade cooperation, in addition to strengthening partnerships in the fields of health, agriculture, tourism, and law enforcement, as well as enhancing people-to-people exchanges to promote mutual understanding.
On the sensitive issue of Taiwan, the Chinese president stressed that the United States must handle the matter with “extreme caution,” warning that mismanagement of the Taiwan الملف could lead to serious tensions or even a direct confrontation between the two countries, threatening the overall stability of Sino-American relations.
