During his meeting with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, President Michel Aoun stated:
Lebanon welcomes any European and Belgian support to stop the war against it.
The ongoing brutal Israeli bombardment on Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Bekaa, and the South, targeting civilians and committing humanitarian massacres that have caused hundreds of casualties, confirms Israel’s persistent aggression and dangerous escalation despite international efforts to contain regional tensions.
Lebanon remains committed to the negotiation initiative it announced, starting with a ceasefire during which direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel would take place to halt military escalation, as it represents a real opportunity to restore stability in the region. However, Israel continues its attacks and refuses to cooperate.
Lebanon is committed to the exclusivity of its weapons and to extending state authority over its entire territory.
Appreciation was expressed to the European Union and Belgium for their humanitarian assistance.
Minister Prévot expressed Belgium’s support for President Aoun’s positions and the Lebanese government’s decisions that strengthen Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized Belgium and the EU’s readiness to provide political and humanitarian support to Lebanon, announcing a doubling of social, health, and development aid.
