Iran escalated its political rhetoric toward the United States inside the UN Security Council, rejecting the American accusations leveled against it and holding Washington responsible for what it described as attempts to mislead the international community and divert attention from its policies in the region.
In a letter sent by Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, to the secretary-general of the international organization and the president of the Security Council, he said the U.S. representative had used council sessions to present "claims not based on facts," stressing that the United States, in his words, is "the aggressor, not the victim."
Iravani criticized the U.S. accusations regarding Tehran’s support for Yemen’s Ansar Allah group, describing them as allegations lacking credible evidence, and accused Washington of using such issues to deflect attention from its role in the region’s crises.
The Iranian ambassador also held the United States responsible for the deterioration of the security situation in Yemen and the Middle East, saying it obstructs political tracks and violates the sovereignty of states, according to Iran’s IRNA news agency.
