Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Taymour Jumblatt affirmed that the party’s position on the framework agreement is firm, stressing the need to reconsider it, and said:
"Our position on the framework agreement is firm, and it must be reconsidered, because it does not guarantee a full Israeli withdrawal."
He added: "The framework agreement overlooks the international resolutions and agreements that constitute the legal reference for obliging Israel to withdraw, foremost among them the Armistice Agreement."
In the context of discussing the constants of the Progressive Socialist Party, Jumblatt explained:
"Walid Jumblatt’s positions stem from national principles established by Kamal Jumblatt, and the Progressive Socialist Party continues to adhere to them, foremost among them preserving national unity, rejecting all projects of fragmentation and partition, affirming Lebanon’s Arab identity, opposing any form of an alliance of minorities, and confronting the policy of fragmenting the region pursued by Israel."
Jumblatt went on to address what he described as attempts to undermine unity of position within the party and the Democratic Gathering, saying:
"All attempts to suggest that there is a divergence in position within the party or the Democratic Gathering, or to target the unity of the political stance, are doomed to fail, and to some we say: desist from those malicious and poisonous attempts."
Regarding the anticipated meeting between President General Joseph Aoun and US President Donald Trump, he said:
"I hope that the meeting between President General Joseph Aoun and US President Donald Trump will help stop the ongoing Israeli attacks and compel Israel to fully withdraw from Lebanese territory, and I wish him success."
Jumblatt also stressed the importance of the continued work of Parliament in passing urgent laws, and the need to continue examining livelihood-related files, foremost among them the general amnesty law, in a way that achieves justice and serves the national interest.
