The UN Secretary-General stated that the Middle East crisis has entered its second month amid unprecedented humanitarian suffering.
He emphasized that diplomatic efforts are ongoing and must be supported in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. He also stressed the need to respect state sovereignty, protect civilians and infrastructure, and ensure freedom of navigation in the region.
The Secretary-General warned that the blockade of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz threatens the world’s most vulnerable populations and leads to rising food and energy prices, underlining the importance of international action to prevent the crisis from worsening and to safeguard market stability and the daily lives of civilians.
