Sources in Baabda told MTV that the negotiations have seen further progress, after moving from the stage of discussing general principles to examining the executive details of the proposed framework, in preparation for launching the implementation mechanism on the ground.
According to MTV, the current discussion is focused on two model areas that will serve as the first stage of implementation. One includes an area occupied by the Israeli army, from which it is expected to withdraw, while the second lies on the edge of an occupied area, where the deployment of the Lebanese Army will be reinforced.
The sources indicated that preparations have reached advanced stages, with expectations that implementation could begin within days, and perhaps within hours, pending an anticipated American statement setting the date for the start of implementation, provided that it does not go beyond the end of the current week.
They added that discussions also include setting a timetable for completing implementation in the remaining areas, alongside examining the technical aspects related to withdrawal and deployment mechanisms, which may require holding a new military meeting, likely to be hosted by the Italian capital, Rome.
The sources confirmed to MTV that Lebanon is open to the American proposal regarding the verification mechanism, while preferring that it be handled by bodies affiliated with the United Nations. They stressed that any mechanism would be carried out within the Lebanese legal framework, and that no inspection of private property outside that framework has been proposed.
On the political front, the sources stressed that any meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "completely rejected," while also revealing that President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Washington will be brief and will include a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and a number of American officials.
