Aoun and Trump Face Off Over Burning Issues... What Does Each Bring to the White House Summit?

Lebanon is awaiting the anticipated meeting between President Joseph Aoun and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, in a diplomatic stop of exceptional importance given the sensitivity of the regional moment and the complexity of the الملفات that will be placed on the table.

According to our information, the meeting will focus on a number of key headings, most notably the situation in southern Lebanon and ways to consolidate stability, in addition to discussing mechanisms for implementing the "framework formula" related to border issues, with Aoun stressing the need to support the diplomatic track and protect Lebanon from the repercussions of the surrounding conflicts.

The two sides will also discuss the Lebanese army and military and logistical support for it, as Lebanon seeks to strengthen the capabilities of the military institution so it can fully carry out its role in safeguarding security and stability, amid Washington’s previous emphasis on the importance of supporting the army.

Aoun is also expected to raise during the meeting the issue of the Lebanese economy and the recovery path, calling for U.S. backing that would help Lebanon overcome its crises and enhance cooperation between the two countries in the coming phase.

In addition to the bilateral meeting with Trump, Aoun’s program in Washington includes a series of meetings with U.S. officials and members of Congress, as well as meetings at the Lebanese Embassy, aimed at rallying political, military, and economic support for Lebanon.
