Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed details of the hours preceding the attack that targeted a headquarters of the Iranian leadership, confirming that he was inside the facility when the strike hit a number of offices in the area.
Araghchi explained on Sunday that the signs of an approaching military confrontation had been clear since Friday, March 28, noting that he had informed the president on Saturday morning that “the general atmosphere points to war.”
He added that he then headed to meet senior official Ali Asghar Hejazi, to whom he presented a report related to the negotiations, but the attack occurred during the meeting, in a development he said reflected the gravity of the moment and the scale of the security threats.
Araghchi pointed out that what happened reveals the existence of serious intelligence gaps that still persist, amid escalating security challenges facing Iran’s leadership.
