In light of the contacts Saudi Arabia is making in support of Lebanon and the French role in stopping the war, the head of the Lebanese-French parliamentary committee, MP Simon Abi Ramia, said in remarks to Annahar that “it is clear there is Saudi-Egyptian-French coordination, because they consider themselves not aligned with either the American axis on the one hand or the Iranian axis on the other, and they are playing the role of a regional mediator at the level of the war taking place between America and Iran.”
He continued: “As for Lebanon, there is an effort to prevent tension, strife and any escalation in rhetoric, to avoid sliding into problems at the street level, and to protect the government and legitimacy by protecting the three presidents and fortifying their positions. Naturally, if we move toward direct negotiations, the broadest possible consensus and the strongest political and popular majority must be secured for this option, in addition to protecting Taif and not tampering with the Lebanese formula, and reinforcing the position of the prime minister. This means restoring international credibility in many files, as well as for President General Joseph Aoun after the attack he has been subjected to following the moves he has undertaken, which are ultimately aimed at protecting Lebanese sovereignty and preserving rights through the withdrawal of the Israeli army, the return of the displaced, and the release of Lebanese prisoners. This means consolidating and securing Lebanon’s rights, and that is what is happening at this level.”
