Education Minister Rima Karami described what took place during today’s parliamentary session as “a black day for education,” considering that the path of reform in the education sector requires political cover and support that would enable the ministry to implement its decisions, while political decisions, in turn, must be based on the views of specialists and experts.
Karami said in a television interview that a number of MPs had placed political considerations above educational standards, stressing that the measures and decisions taken by the Ministry of Education were not random, but were based on specialized studies and scientific data.
The education minister stressed that developing the education sector requires cooperation between political institutions and specialized educational bodies, warning that prioritizing political calculations could obstruct any serious attempt to advance education in Lebanon.
