The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs has launched an urgent three-month humanitarian appeal to support the response to the escalating crisis in Lebanon, warning that the country is experiencing “an extremely dangerous moment” that could affect its stability and that of the wider region.
The UN official stated that the death toll since March 2 has risen to more than 570 people, with over 1,400 injured, noting that ongoing hostilities have also forced the closure of 49 primary healthcare centers and five hospitals.
Regarding displacement, he pointed to a rapid increase in the numbers, with more than 750,000 people displaced داخل لبنان. Meanwhile, around 84,000 Syrians and more than 8,000 Lebanese have crossed into Syria since the escalation began.
He stressed that the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is worsening quickly, emphasizing that civilians are paying the highest price for the war.
He concluded by saying that the Lebanese people can be stronger than the forces tearing them apart, “if Iran and Israel stop fighting their wars.”
