The Progressive Socialist Party has affirmed its support for the Lebanese state’s choice to engage in negotiations separate from the US-Iranian track, based on the initiative of President General Joseph Aoun, stressing the shared priority of the need to secure a ceasefire.
The PSP also underlined its support for the negotiating track, considering that the primary objective of these talks is to stop the war, alongside achieving a set of priorities, most notably: the liberation of occupied land and prisoners, the return of the people of the South to their villages, the reconstruction of what the war has destroyed, the demarcation of the land and maritime borders, and holding Israel accountable for its crimes.
This is in addition to implementing the 1949 Armistice Agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as adhering to the terms of the agreement to cease hostilities signed in November 2024.
The PSP indicated that the ceiling of the negotiations is stopping the war and hostile acts, noting that any talk of peace remains tied to the Arab Peace Initiative launched by Saudi Arabia from Beirut in 2002, a position that aligns with that of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
