On the Outskirts of the Nile... A Water Project Cracks Before Beginning Its Journey

Egyptian authorities announced the opening of a technical investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the partial collapse that struck a bridge designated to carry pipeline lines for the new drinking water station in the village of Al-Faqa'i in Beni Suef Governorate, before the station entered the actual operational phase.

The incident sparked concern among residents after video clips circulated showing cracks in the bridge, amid questions about the impact of the incident on the station’s readiness and its ability to secure water services for the beneficiary villages.

For its part, the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater confirmed that the station is still in the trial phase and has not yet been officially handed over to the Beni Suef Water Company, explaining that it remains under the responsibility of the executing contractor.

The company indicated that the National Research Center had been tasked with conducting a comprehensive technical study to determine the causes of the collapse, in preparation for taking the appropriate measures in light of the report’s findings and ensuring the safety of the facility before operations begin.
