Lebanese Customs issues memorandum extending temporary import deadlines for vehicles and yachts

The Directorate General of Customs announced an extension of the temporary import deadlines for motor vehicles, yachts and motorcycles brought into Lebanon on a temporary basis for tourism purposes, as part of measures aimed at taking exceptional circumstances into account and easing burdens on those concerned.

Director General of Customs Gracia Qazzi issued a memorandum extending the specified deadlines. The decision covers vehicles included under temporary entry declarations, temporary import permits and international transit carnets, in accordance with the conditions and mechanisms set out in the memorandum.

The memorandum stated:

"In view of the continued exceptional circumstances the country is going through, and in order to ease the burdens on those concerned, we have decided the following:

1- The temporary import deadlines for cars, yachts and motorcycles temporarily brought into Lebanon for tourism purposes are implicitly extended until 31/8/2026, whether under temporary entry declarations of form (IM5), international transit carnets, or temporary import permits, provided that the deadlines granted to them fall between the date of issuance of this memorandum and 31/8/2026. The extension also covers the aforementioned motor vehicles whose stay period had been extended under our memoranda No. 8260/2026 dated 2/4/2026 and 15/5/2026, or until the expiry date of the international transit carnets if their validity ends before 31/8/2026.

2- The validity period of approvals granted for settling the temporary import status (re-export or placement into local consumption) for the items covered by this memorandum is also implicitly extended until 31/8/2026, provided that the period granted for settlement falls between the date of issuance of this memorandum and 31/8/2026. The extension also includes settlement deadlines previously extended under our memoranda No. 8260/2026 dated 2/4/2026 and 15/5/2026.

The provisions of this memorandum do not apply to the aforementioned items whose specified deadlines expired before the date of issuance of our Memorandum No. 8260/2026 dated 2/4/2026, as any delay remains in effect until requests for settlement of status are submitted.

For your information and necessary action, and a copy of this memorandum should be posted on the notice board in every customs unit."
