The Lebanese government announced, pursuant to memorandum No. 19/2026 issued by Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam, that Tuesday, August 4, 2026, will be observed as a national day of mourning to mark the sixth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, in tribute to the souls of the victims and in solidarity with the wounded and their families.
The memorandum stipulates the closure of all public administrations, official institutions and municipalities throughout the day of mourning, with flags to be flown at half-mast over official buildings, in a step symbolizing الوفاء to the victims of one of the greatest disasters Lebanon has witnessed.
The government also called on television and radio media outlets to adjust their regular programming in line with the national occasion, and to devote airtime to commemorating the anniversary and expressing solidarity with the families of the martyrs and the injured, reflecting the symbolism of this day in the national memory.
