Iran condemned the attack targeting one of its commercial vessels in the Caspian Sea, calling for international action to hold those responsible accountable, in a move reflecting rising tensions amid regional developments.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during a phone call with European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas that targeting the vessel constitutes a serious violation, urging the UN Security Council and the European Union to adopt a firm stance that would lead to accountability for the perpetrators of the attack and those backing them.
The call also addressed the latest regional developments, with both sides stressing the importance of activating the diplomatic track to contain tensions, particularly in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, amid the escalation that followed the recent confrontation between Iran and the United States, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.
