Economy Minister Amer Al-Bissat announced that “the inflation shock on consumers is severe,” noting that “the Consumer Protection Law, which increases fines and strengthens oversight powers, is the main deterrent and has reached the General Secretariat, but political circumstances have delayed a decision on it.”
Al-Bissat said in an interview with LBCI: “We have carried out more than 6,000 field inspections since the beginning of the year and issued 170 reports. We have also strengthened cooperation with State Security, which has led to the closure of establishments with red wax seals, the seizure and destruction of goods, as well as arrests.”
He added: “Regarding World Bank assistance, the priority today is relief, amid a sharp decline in gross national product, with the worsening inflation shock, a shortage of dollars, and a decline in tourism and remittances, alongside the launch of reforms that ensure the sustainability of the recovery.”
