
President Joseph Aoun received Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam and reviewed with him the general situation in the country in light of recent developments.
President Aoun briefed the Prime Minister on the results of his visit to the United States and the meetings he held with President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as the readiness expressed by American officials to support the Lebanese Army and assist Lebanon in all fields, in addition to the United States’ commitment to implementing the framework formula agreed upon in Washington in the broader areas of U.S.-Lebanese cooperation, in light of the Lebanese position stressing the need to complete the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese villages and towns up to the southern border.
For his part, President Nawaf Salam briefed the President on his visit to the South, specifically to the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiya following the Israeli withdrawal from it, and said: “I affirmed that we stand with our people in the South and by their side, and that the state is determined to secure their needs in a way that reinforces their presence on their land and safeguards their livelihoods.”
The discussions also addressed the visit President Nawaf Salam intends to make next Sunday to Iraq to discuss with his counterpart, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Kazem al-Zaidi, ways to strengthen Lebanese-Iraqi relations in all fields.
