"Sidi Bou Said" Crowned Globally... Tunisia’s Enchanting Village Joins the World Heritage List

Tunisia has achieved a new cultural milestone with the inscription of the village of Sidi Bou Said on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), following the unanimous approval of its nomination file, making it one of the most prominent Mediterranean landmarks of universal civilizational value.

This distinction comes as Tunisia marks the 69th anniversary of Republic Day, in recognition of the village as a unique architectural model that blends Tunisian identity with Mediterranean civilizational influences, in addition to its status as a center of cultural and spiritual inspiration throughout history.

The inscription of Sidi Bou Said raises the number of Tunisian sites on the World Heritage List to ten, in a step the Ministry of Cultural Affairs described as confirmation of the success of national efforts to safeguard cultural heritage and strengthen Tunisia’s civilizational presence on the international stage.

This inscription marks the second international distinction Tunisia has achieved at UNESCO in 2026, adding a new milestone to its cultural record and cementing Sidi Bou Said’s standing as one of the Mediterranean’s architectural and heritage jewels.
