Rassamni: A Lebanese-American committee paves the way for the return of air flights.

Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rassamni affirmed that the resumption of direct U.S. flights to Lebanon represents a pivotal milestone that goes beyond the aviation sector, as it sends a message of confidence in the Lebanese state and in the reform path being pursued by the presidency and the government.

Rassamni explained, in an interview with MFM channel, that work is underway to form a specialized committee to prepare an air transport agreement between Lebanon and the United States in coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation. He noted that the committee will head to Washington in the coming weeks to hold preliminary meetings, while a U.S. delegation is expected to arrive in Lebanon soon to assess on the ground the operational and security conditions at Beirut Airport.

He pointed out that the U.S. side, following the president’s return from Washington, requested the appointment of a central coordinating body, noting that he will personally assume this task, while the committee will be formed and the appointment of its members completed progressively as needed.

Rassamni stressed that this step is based on Beirut Airport’s readiness and on the measures and decisions taken by the ministry to strengthen confidence and raise the level of performance in the aviation sector.
