Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that Israel, France, and Lebanon are considering opening a negotiation channel aimed at reaching a potential settlement in the region, focusing on practical steps that the Lebanese government can take to demonstrate the seriousness of the process.
Israeli sources emphasized that any progress toward negotiations depends on Lebanon's ability to take action against Hezbollah and shift the regional balance of power in relation to Iran.
The newspaper noted that at present there are no official negotiations, no finalized plan, and no formal response from Israel, but there is an attempt to explore the possibility of paving the way through limited arrangements that could later be expanded.
Israel clarified that the main issue lies with Hezbollah and the gap between the political rhetoric coming from Beirut and the Lebanese state's practical ability to enforce any measures on the group.
The Israeli sources also pointed out that if the Lebanese government wants to prove its seriousness, it must take concrete steps against Hezbollah’s infrastructure, including cutting off its funding, acting through the banking system, and dismantling its civil and institutional structures.
