Lebanon’s health sector has embarked on a new path toward digital transformation with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Public Health and the MECRA Foundation (Middle East Clinical Research Association), aimed at building an advanced clinical research ecosystem and strengthening the use of modern technologies in the service of health security.
The agreement falls within the Health Ministry’s plan to modernize the national health infrastructure by introducing digital solutions and artificial intelligence into medical research, and by developing data-driven decision-making mechanisms based on accurate information, in a way that raises the level of scientific research in Lebanon and reinforces its position as a regional hub for medical research in line with international standards.
Public Health Minister Dr. Rakan Nassereddine said the step reflects confidence in Lebanon’s scientific capabilities and its standing in the field of clinical research, stressing that localizing modern technology within the ministry constitutes a fundamental path toward advancing the health sector, thanks to Lebanese expertise and research capacities capable of competing globally.
For her part, Dr. Nadia Choueib, president of the MECRA Foundation, underscored the importance of the partnership with the Health Ministry, saying Lebanon possesses the scientific and human resources that qualify it to become a regional model in harnessing artificial intelligence and medical innovation to strengthen health security and advance scientific research.
The agreement includes a set of development projects, most notably the modernization of research and health surveillance platforms, the adoption of smart analytics to support medical decisions, the strengthening of the pharmacovigilance system, the training of personnel and hospitals on the latest procedures, in addition to the development of patient support programs aimed at improving the quality of services and healthcare.
This step marks a new milestone in Lebanon’s effort to reposition itself on the regional medical research map by combining Lebanese scientific expertise with modern technology to build a more advanced and sustainable health sector.
