Khamenei: The memorandum of understanding exposed Washington... and Trump’s signature is worthless

A statement was issued by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, reading:

“In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful,

O great Iranian people, makers of miracles!

Peace, greetings, and thanks to you, for through your unique and historic epic in the unprecedented uprising to bid farewell to Iran’s martyred master, you demonstrated a new level of the manifestations of mission and the steadfast will of the Islamic-Iranian identity, in gratitude, loyalty, insight, and the expression of overwhelming love for the leader of the Islamic nation and the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution. The warmth of grieving hearts, tearful eyes, and the firm resolve of the crowds, which reached tens of millions and stretched for dozens of kilometers in Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, and other cities and villages, won the admiration of the friends of the Iranian people and the free people of the world, and cast the arrogant enemies of the Iranian people into confusion, astonishment, anger, and fear.

At the same time as this epic, the repeated breach of commitments by the Great Satan regarding the memorandum of understanding signed between the presidents of Iran and America once again proved this truth to everyone: how trivial the American president’s signature is and how devoid it is of credibility, and that arrogance, monopolization, and brutality are inseparable parts of the American approach and conduct. Today, the Great Satan has once again revealed its true face without a mask, so that this dark experience of criminality and broken promises may stand as yet another damning document of America’s lies, its deviation from logic, the impossibility of trusting it, and its malice. And now, as the American enemy seeks to ignite the fuse of war and bear heavy costs and further disgrace, let it know that the dear Iranian people and the resistance front have unforgettable lessons, and the courage of the mujahideen of Islam and the zeal of the brave sons of the southern region have shown examples of them in recent days.

I must tell you, loyal and proud Iranian people, that among the most fundamental matters at this stage is insistence on unity of word and sacred solidarity at all levels of the people and officials and across various arenas, in order to realize the lofty aspirations of the Islamic Revolution and guarantee the dignity and independence of dear Iran, especially in confronting the criminal and deceitful American enemy. As has been emphasized and warned repeatedly before, preserving unity and avoiding division, conflict, political disputes, and the magnification of social differences is a duty upon الجميع. Naturally, the role of officials and sincere, selfless cadres devoted to the Revolution, the Imam, and the martyred leader in strengthening the country’s cohesion and unity is the most important and sensitive.

■ On this basis, the dear people, by continuing to place trust in the sincere officials in the three branches of government, whose efforts are directed toward the welfare and happiness of the people, will remain vigilant and active in the field to ensure the safeguarding of the interests of Islamic Iran. Some individuals may have criticisms of the performance of certain officials, with utmost sincerity and out of zeal and concern. In my view, while this concern and care for the system—just like those who hold it—is a valuable asset and in itself a desirable matter, these dear ones, some of whom are among the vanguard of the insightful, must beware: first, that this approach should not lead to injustice against an innocent person, for that becomes a cause of deprivation from divine blessings and favor. Second, it must not cause a rupture in unity and social cohesion. With these considerations observed, criticism will be a motive for the flourishing and advancement of affairs. The enemy must not receive from us any sign of weakness, including this weakness; and whenever we fully and precisely observe this consideration, it will have no path before it but defeat.

Once again, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to every member of the dear people, who themselves are mourners for the martyred father of the nation, and who, despite difficulties and some restrictions and hardships, wrote a historic epic in this great event of bidding farewell to Iran’s martyred master. I also extend thanks to the grand maraji, scholars, thinkers and elites, and activists in the cultural, social, and political fields, and I also appreciate the measures and efforts undertaken by civilian and military institutions, as well as the presence of the officials and representatives of the proud resistance front and the representatives of the glorious Islamic movements. We hope that the special لطف and prayers of our Master (may God hasten his noble reappearance) will encompass all those who had a presence, accompaniment, and solidarity, in whatever form, in this historic epic.
