U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed that his country is still seeking to reach a "diplomatic solution" with Iran that ensures it does not acquire a nuclear weapon, while stressing at the same time that there is a crisis of trust with the Iranian regime.
Rubio pointed out that Iran is targeting commercial traffic in one of the vital waterways, affecting a number of countries impacted by maritime security and global trade.
He added that the "lack of trust with the Iranian regime" stems from what he described as a breach of the memorandum of understanding shortly after it was signed, stressing that any negotiating track requires a clear and credible commitment to obligations.
