
Minister of Education and Higher Education Rima Karami received the draft decree of the new national curriculum from the President of the Center for Educational Research and Development, Hiam Ishak, during a meeting attended by the committee responsible for preparing the project, along with ministry advisors.
Ishak described the completion of the draft as a pivotal milestone in reforming Lebanon’s education system, highlighting the urgent need for modern curricula based on a competency-based approach—particularly citizenship, modernity, and alignment with digital transformation and advancements in artificial intelligence. She noted that the draft is the result of extensive efforts by experts, educators, and legal specialists, including the development of the national framework, supporting documents, and scope and sequence matrices, expressing hope for its swift approval by the Council of Ministers.
For her part, Karami praised the work of the center and the committee, considering the project a major qualitative leap in the structure of education in Lebanon. She emphasized the importance of maintaining flexibility in updating curricula every three years, as well as allowing partial adjustments across various disciplines and educational stages when needed.
The meeting also featured a detailed presentation of the rationale behind the decree, its provisions, and annexes, alongside discussions on pedagogical and legal aspects, with a focus on ensuring coherence between educational content and the legal framework.
In conclusion, the minister stressed the need to finalize technical and legal remarks, announcing a follow-up meeting to refine the final version of the draft ahead of its submission to the Council of Ministers for approval.
