Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bassat affirmed that the next phase requires moving beyond crisis management toward a comprehensive economic and development vision that restores Sidon’s vital role, stressing that the seafront and the city’s port constitute the cornerstone of any plan for economic revival, alongside the implementation of development projects that boost commercial and investment activity.
Bassat made his remarks during a field tour of the city that included the new fish market and the fishermen’s port, with the participation of Sidon Mayor Engineer مصطفى حجازي, Head of the Sidon and Suburbs Traders Association Ali Al-Sharif, and a number of municipal council members. During the visit, he listened to the concerns of fishermen and reviewed their main demands and the challenges hindering their work.
The minister also continued his tour on foot through the neighborhoods of the old city before visiting Sidon’s commercial market, where he met with a number of business owners and shopkeepers and heard directly from them about the state of economic activity and the difficulties facing the sector. The visit came as part of a field follow-up aimed at setting the priorities for the next phase and strengthening the foundations of the city’s economic recovery.
