Call between Berri and Macron amid tense circumstances... French support and Lebanese demands to halt the aggression

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri discussed, in a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, the latest political and field developments in Lebanon and the region, amid the continued Israeli military operations and the destruction they are causing in the occupied southern villages and towns.

During the call, the French president renewed his country’s commitment to continuing its support for Lebanon, stressing that the country’s stability and the preservation of its sovereignty are a priority for France, alongside continued support for the Lebanese Army and reconstruction efforts. He also affirmed Paris’s and friendly countries’ readiness to assist Lebanon in confronting the current challenges.

For his part, President Berri expressed his appreciation for the French position supporting Lebanon, calling for urgent international action to compel Israel to halt its military operations and withdraw from the Lebanese territories it occupies, thereby allowing the Lebanese Army to deploy and residents to return to their towns and villages, in preparation for launching the reconstruction process.

Berri also stressed the importance of the continued work of the UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon, considering their presence a fundamental pillar in the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

On the economic front, the Speaker of Parliament affirmed that the Chamber continues to work on approving the required reform legislation, in a way that contributes to completing the path toward an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
