Karam: President Aoun’s visit to Washington will certainly yield positive results

MP Fadi Karam said in an interview with Voice of All Lebanon radio that President General Joseph Aoun’s visit to Washington is likely to lead to positive results, considering it a key stop within a long-term path aimed at strengthening the sovereignty of the Lebanese state and ending what he described as “Iranian hegemony” over Lebanon.

Karam pointed out that the course being led by President Joseph Aoun and Nawaf Salam is not limited to this visit, but rather requires follow-up through successive steps that consolidate the project of state-building and reinforce its sovereignty.

On the security front, he warned of the possibility of renewed confrontation on the southern front, considering that any potential escalation would be linked to Iranian calculations. He said that “Hezbollah is carrying out the directives of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,” adding that the last war did not address the root causes that led to it, and that the party still clings to the option of confrontation despite the cost Lebanon is bearing.

As for the general amnesty law, Karam explained that the Lebanese Forces party is awaiting a call from Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri for an extraordinary session to pass the draft law, away from linking it to other files. He affirmed the Lebanese Forces’ readiness to participate in any session that leads to the approval of the formula that won the backing of the majority of Sunni MPs.
