Washington expands its attack on Iran: A two-hour wave of strikes targeted dozens of military sites

The U.S. military announced that it had carried out a new wave of airstrikes inside Iran lasting about two hours, targeting dozens of sites belonging to the Revolutionary Guard, in a military escalation that Washington described as a direct response to Iranian missile attacks targeting U.S. forces in the Middle East a day earlier.

The U.S. military said the operation came after several ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward American forces were intercepted, while the U.S. administration considered the Iranian attack a "surprise attempt" that required a broad military response.

For its part, Tehran confirmed responsibility for targeting U.S. bases in Jordan, while U.S. President Donald Trump had vowed after the Iranian attack to "deliver a very strong blow."

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the platform X that the operation represented a "strong response" to Iran’s attempts to target American forces, noting that the strikes began at 8 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time and continued until 10 p.m.

In a statement, Central Command added that the strikes hit dozens of sites belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, as well as surveillance sites, coastal defense positions, and naval capabilities, as part of what it described as an operation aimed at undermining Iran’s military capabilities.
