President Joseph Aoun affirmed that Lebanon is counting on an active Turkish role in the coming المرحلة, whether at the economic level or in supporting security stability, pointing to the importance of Ankara’s contribution to the recovery process and the implementation of what was agreed upon under the “framework formula.”
Aoun explained in remarks to Anadolu Agency that Lebanon is committed to carrying out the pledges it signed during his visit to Washington, but that the success of the agreement remains tied to the provision of clear guarantees, most notably a simultaneous Israeli withdrawal alongside the deployment of the Lebanese Army, and a definitive end to violations and attacks.
The president noted that Turkey, with its regional and international ties, is capable of helping secure Lebanon’s eastern and northern borders and preventing arms smuggling operations or any infiltration that could threaten security and stability.
Regarding the period after the end of the UNIFIL mission, Aoun pointed out that several proposals are under consideration, including the formation of a European force, or Turkish participation backed by NATO, in addition to other options involving the participation of Arab and Islamic countries, stressing that the goal is to ensure stability in the south and protect Lebanon’s sovereignty.
